COMPARAÇÃO DOS INDICADORES DE OBESIDADE E CONDICIONAMENTO CARDIORRESPIRATÓRIO EM ADULTOS INGRESSANTES EM ACADEMIA DE GINÁSTICA

Introdução: Muito se discute sobre a importância de exercícios físicos sistematizados para saúde. Entretanto, em prática, na maioria das vezes pouco se leva em consideração a condição de saúde do indivíduo que inicia a prática de exercícios físicos, o que pode proporcionar um equívoco quanto à prescrição das atividades. Objetivos: Comparar indicadores de obesidade e condicionamento cardiorrespiratórios entre adultos de diferentes faixas etárias, ingressantes em academia de ginástica. Materiais e Métodos: Este estudo comparou as variáveis antropométricas e de condicionamento cardiorrespiratório entre faixas etárias e sexos em 303 adultos ingressantes de uma academia de ginástica em Curitiba, Paraná. Para análise dos dados recorreu-se a análise de variância e o teste Qui-quadrado, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: Todas as medidas antropométricas mostraram aumentos com a idade nas mulheres, o VO2máx, diminuição em ambos os sexos; a maior proporção de indivíduos com medidas antropométricas elevadas foi encontrada nos mais velhos (p<0,05). O IMC elevado esteve mais freqüente entre homens (40,5%; p<0,05) e a CA aumentada entre mulheres (65,0%; p<0,01). O baixo condicionamento cardiorrespiratório foi entre indivíduos mais velhos (81,0%; p<0,05) e do sexo feminino (79,2%; p<0,01). Conclusão: Evidenciou-se que grande parcela dos adultos ingressa em academias com indicadores de saúde cardiovascular inadequados, principalmente os indivíduos mais velhos.
