Abstract

The following paper has as main analyze the possible uses and potential offered by drone technology applied to journalistic newsgathering. Arisen in the military sphere and applied by the military powers in the so-called “War on Terror”, since 2006 several national and international news organizations have developed practices of news coverage drone. Despite the scant literature exists regarding the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), specifically in contemporary journalism, was conducted an analysis of journalistic experiences and news material produced with drones. These were conducted by versions Argentine digital newspaper La Nacion.com, La Voz.com and Los Andes.com. As a result of the study it follows that, in large part, the media presents the use of drones in news coverage rather as a “novelty” technical character presented to the audience. There is therefore little evidence of the use of such technology to complement contextualization in the process of building coverage and multimedia news, using a narrative, language and distinct aesthetics.
