Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

  1. The manuscript must contain the full text (not exceeding 21 (twenty-one) pages (including references, figures, tables and attachments), without identification of the author (s), must be typed in Times New Roman font, size 12, simple space and 2.5 centimeters of margins, and elaborated in the sequence below, with all the pages numbered, starting with the title page [1].
  2. Title page and Identification. The identification page must contain the following data:
  3. a) Title of the manuscript in capital letters;
  4. b) Title for the article pages: indicate a short title to be used in the header of the article pages (Portuguese and English), not exceeding 60 characters;
  5. c) Keywords: a list of indexing terms or keywords (maximum six) must be included (versions in Portuguese and English).
  6. The Journal of Health Care uses DeCS - Health Sciences Descriptors to consult the indexing terms (keywords) to be used in the article (http://decs.bvs.br/).
  7. Summary. For Brazilian authors, the summary must be written in Portuguese and English. For other countries, only in English. A concise statement, not exceeding 250 words in a single paragraph, must be written on a separate sheet and placed right after the title page. The summary must be presented in a structured format, including the following items separately: Introduction, Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results and Conclusions. Footnotes and undefined abbreviations should not be used.
  8. Abstract. In case of submission in Portuguese, the title, the structured abstract and the keywords of the article must be translated into English without altering the content.
  9. Text. After the Summary and the Abstract, include the pages referring to the manuscript text with or without highlighted sectors, according to the type of manuscript: communication, case report (case study), original article and review article. Below is a brief account of the main sectors to be highlighted: For original article: Introduction - must inform about the investigated object and have the research objectives, their relations with other works in the area and the reasons that led the author (s) to undertake the research. Materials and Methods - provide enough details to make the work reproducible. Methods already published should be indicated by reference, only relevant modifications should be described. This section should describe the population studied, the sample to be analyzed and the selection criteria; it must also clearly define the variables under study and describe in detail the statistical methods employed (including appropriate references on statistical methods and software). Procedures, products and equipment must be described in sufficient detail to allow for the reproduction of the study. In this item, the approval of CEP (Ethics and Research Committee) must be made explicit, therefore , presenting the protocol number. Results - must be presented briefly and concisely. Tables, Figures and Attachments can be included when necessary (indicate where they should be included and attach at the end) to ensure a better and more effective understanding of the data, as long as they do not exceed the number of pages allowed. Discussion - the purpose of the discussion is to interpret the results and relate them to existing and available knowledge, especially those that  were  indicated in the Introduction to the work. The information previously given in the text (Introduction, Materials and Methods, and Results) can be  cited, but should not be repeated in detail in the discussion. Conclusion - must be brief, supported by the results and related to the objective (s). It can point out future referrals for the developed topic.

For communication, case report:

  1. ATTENTION: Use the same criteria that were presented in the ORIGINAL ARTICLE. For a review article: Introduction - must inform about the investigated object and contain the objectives of the investigation, its relations with other works in the area and the reasons that led the (s) ) authors to undertake the research. Development - used in literature review articles, it must present the description of the literature review made or not in sectors determined by the authors. Conclusion - must be brief, supported by the results and related to the objective (s). You can point out future referrals for the theme developed. After the text, of any nature, include: a) Acknowledgments. When appropriate, acknowledgments can be included, concisely, at the end of the text, before the Bibliographical References, specifying: technical assistance, research grants , scholarship and collaboration of people who deserve recognition (advice and assistance). Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from the people whose names appear in the Acknowledgments.
  2. Bibliographic References. Bibliographical references must be organized in numerical sequence, according to the order in which they are first mentioned in the text, following the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Newspapers, prepared by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors - ICMJE - http://www.icmje.org/index.html or http://www.scielo.br/pdf/rsp/v33n3/0301.pdf - Portuguese version ). Citations must be mentioned in the text in superscript numbers (exponent), without dates . The accuracy of the bibliographic references in the manuscript and the correct citation in the text are responsibility of the author (s) of the manuscript.
  3. Footnotes. They must be avoided.
  4. Tables and Figures Tables. All tables must be cited in the text in numerical order. Tables should be numbered ,consecutively, with Arabic numerals and inserted at the end. A descriptive title and legends should make the tables understandable, without having to consult the text of the article. Figures- Explain all symbols and abbreviations. Captions should make the figures understandable, without the need to consult the text. All figures must be cited in the text, in numerical order and identified. Figures - Final Art - All figures must have a professional appearance. Poor quality figures can result in delays in the acceptance and publication of the article. If possible, all symbols should appear in the captions.
  5. The article must be typed in the "Template" provided by RAS, without any formatting changes, in:
