VULNERABILITY IN SOCIAL WELFARE AND HOUSEHOLD CONSUMPTION AFTER THE BRUMADINHO/MG TRAGEDY

Resumo

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a vulnerabilidade ao consumo e ao bem-estar social, diante da tragédia ocorrida em decorrência ao rompimento da Barragem B1, na Mina Córrego do Feijão, localizada no município de Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, onde várias vidas se escoaram no vale da lama. Optou-se para o estudo dessa pesquisa, o método qualitativo, tendo como estratégia de verificação da análise dos dados, os relatos de história de vida, pois abrange os interesses envolvidos na fase exploratória, bem como riqueza de informações absorvidas no envolvimento nas entrevistas com nove participantes. Para tanto, as principais dimensões detectadas no percurso deste trabalho foram: (a) o sofrimento e as perdas; (b) os meios de subsistências dos familiares; (c) o bem-estar das famílias e dos sobreviventes; (d) o papel do poder público; (e) ações da Vale do Rio Doce para com as famílias afetadas e para com a comunidade.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the vulnerability to consumption and social well-being, in the face of the tragedy that occurred as a result of the rupture of the B1 Dam, in the Córrego do Feijão Mine, located in the municipality of Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, where several lives were drained in the mud valley. The qualitative method was chosen for the study of this research, having as a strategy to verify the data analysis, the life history reports, as it covers the interests involved in the exploratory phase, as well as a wealth of information absorbed in the involvement in the interviews with nine participants. Therefore, the main dimensions detected in the course of this work were: (a) suffering and losses; (b) family members' means of subsistence; (c) the well-being of families and survivors; (d) the role of public authorities; (e) actions by Vale do Rio Doce with the affected families and with the community.

    Rita de Cássia de Faria Pereira holds a Ph.D. degree in Management (Marketing & Strategy) earned from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Business Administration earned from Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil. She was an assistant professor of Marketing at the Department of Management at Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and an assistant professor of Marketing at the Department of Management at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She currently works at UFPB as an associate professor of Marketing at the Department of Management, a faculty member of the Graduate School of Management (PPGA), and a faculty member of the Graduate School of Learning Organizations (MPGOA). At UFPB, she has been also head of the Department of Management and director of PPGA twice. She is chief researcher of the Marketing, Consumption & Society Research Group, and a member of the Information Technology & Society Research Group (GTIS) - both accredited by the Brazilian Research Council (CNPq). Her works appeared in 20+ peer-reviewed journals, such as RAUSP, RAC, RBGN, RPBG, REAd, Journal of Global IT Management, IT & People, Computers in Human Behavior, International Journal of Human Capital & IT Professionals, and International Journal of Software Engineering & Knowledge Engineering.
