Abstract

Introduction: cardiovascular diseases represent the main cause of morbidity and mortality in Brazil. Objective: To analyze the risk cardiovascular (CVR) by measuring the waist and its associated factors in adolescents in the city of Porto Velho, RO. Material and Method: The sample consisted of 74,589 participants of the study of cardiovascular risk factors in adolescents, involving municipalities above 100 thousand inhabitants. This study was included only sampling of Porto Velho, totaling 706. We performed a multivariate Poisson regression. Results: The proportion of CVR waist was 10.6%, higher risk in girls 12.8%. In the final model remained associated with the female sex, age between 15 to 17 years, excess weight, altered HDL, LDL, triglycerides amended, systemic blood pressure changed and the HOMA-IR ? 4th quartile (p<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: The measurement of waist proved to be a good predictor for evaluation of the CVR in adolescents, therefore, it reinforces the importance of deploy and implement the waist measure as a means of prevention and control of RCV in children and adolescents, in schools and basic health units.
