Environmental management and water resourcesmanagement in the context of use and occupation of soil in municipalities

Abstract

This study aimed to show the importance of integration between environmental management and water resources management in the search for a sustainable municipal development,reducing the negative impacts due to uncontrolled use of the soil. For this purpose, we constructed the Index of Municipal Management of Water Resources and the Index of Environmental Management for the municipalities of Ceará, Brazil. The main results showed thatthe water resources management and the environment management models in the municipalities of Ceará have fragilities inherent to the low level of integration between them and the low level of implementation of management tools. As consequence,the negative impacts of lack of planning in the use and occupation of the soilmay be increased.
