Abstract

This article reflects on the role of self-portraits in the sociability of young people from small towns. We discuss their perceptions of selfies circulated on social media, considering the strategies adopted in performances, as well as the ways in which ICTs and users appropriate these images. To do so, we present an analysis of interviews conducted with residents of towns in Rio Grande do Sul and Sergipe. We discuss how they perceive the exposure of themselves on these digital channels and the forms of interaction with their social networks.
