Abstract

Although the role of people is increasingly recognized for the competitiveness of organizations, data on engagement and retention reveal a worrying scenario, showing a poorly engaged workforce with a decline in productivity. The practice of feedback, component of the performance management system, has been associated with increased employee engagement and satisfaction as it encourages professional development. This work seeks to contribute to this reflection, bringing a case study on experience with feedback, carried out with employees of the Brazilian branch of an American technology company. Results show that feedback is essential for the commitment and feeling of appreciation of employees and suggest that organizations that promote feedback can achieve greater success in engaging people, by promoting the psychological conditions of meaning, safety and availability. But they also indicate different perceptions between informal feedbacks, considered constructive, and formal feedbacks, received with anxiety and mistrust in the process.
