General Guidelines
REAe is a journal of the Professional Master's in Education program at the Municipal University of São Caetano do Sul (USCS), created with the aim of disseminating research originated and applied to the field of Education. It also includes studies from other areas whose themes mainly relate to issues in basic education.
This dossier focuses on the themes of gender relations, ethnic-racial issues, and interculturality in education.
[...] celebro um ensino que permita as transgressões - um movimento contra as fronteiras e para além delas. É esse movimento que transforma a educação na prática da liberdade. (bell hooks, 2013, p. 24)
Recognizing, respecting, valuing, and celebrating differences constitute challenges in the construction of a democratic education that respects the citizenship rights of all. This implies unveiling the different forms of coloniality present in everyday education and giving visibility to the knowledge and practices of socially marginalized groups, whether due to gender, race, ethnicity, age, economic differences etc. Such groups include women, children, blacks, LGBTI+, indigenous people, and others. The perspective is to deconstruct Eurocentric conceptions that still mark school curricula and to build decolonial ways of understanding these social phenomena in Education. In this sense, we understand that gender and ethnic-racial themes in education constitute a plural, polyphonic, and inclusive field, which demands intercultural dialogue among social movements, educators, and researchers in order to strengthen identities and rights and to build actions to combat racism, sexism, and many other forms of discrimination and oppression. This engagement spans policy analysis and formulation, pedagogical practices, and teacher education. We invite all those engaging in these discussions to share their work with us, aiming to celebrate an education that teaches transgression of boundaries and asserts itself as a "practice of freedom," as proposed by bell hooks.
