Objective: Pancreatic neoplasm is among a group of tumors that are characterized by a high mortality, with metastaticand incurable prognosis, so the knowledge about its epidemiology is owf paramount importance for the characterizationof intervention measures. In this sense, this study sought to describe the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosedwith pancreatic cancer in the Southern Region of Brazil. Materials and methods: A temporal aggregate study wasperformed with data obtained in the Datasus of the 3 states of the southern region of Brazil, from 2010 to 2016.We verified data such as gender, age, and incidence by capital and state. Results: A progressive increase in cases ofpancreatic neoplasia was observed between the years analyzed, from 1,387 in 2010 to 2,459 in 2016. The highestincidence is in male patients over 60 years of age, and the state with the highest number of cases is Rio Grande do Sul,followed by Paraná and Santa Catarina with 9.64, 7.62, 6.02 cases per 100,000 in 2016, respectively. Conclusion:A vertiginous increase in the number of pancreatic neoplasia cases has been observed in the southern region of Brazilover the recent years. The greatest incidence is mainly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, supposedly associated withsmoking habits. The data presented here are of paramount importance because it can help guiding preventive publichealth measures regarding this neoplasm and emphasizing campaigns against smoking.Downloads
